    No, motorist definitely pay their own way when it comes to highway financing. It’s even worse at the local level. Most cities don’t levee their own gasoline taxes, so local city streets are paid for out of local revenue like sales taxes, property taxes, local income taxes, etc.

    So people that don’t own automobiles still pay for the roads they don’t use.

    Meanwhile, sidewalks, which are a primary means of transportation for those who don’t own cars, are dependent on the goodwill and pocketbooks of property owners. I’ve seen people in wheelchairs using the street because the sidewalks were in such poor condition.
