Charlotte neighborhood leaders weigh in

It's been awhile since Charlotte's new light rail line opened, giving the locals time for form a solid opinion about the impact to their neighborhoods. We thought it was important to share since there will undoubtedly be someone between the river and Brush Creek who has a problem with light rail before the first foot of rail goes into the pavement.

Wow, home improvements, increased home values, lower parking costs downtown, easy access to sports events - -that sounds horrible. Why would we want that here?

It’s amazing, that line has been open only about 3 months, and they’re surpassing projections and 2 of these communtiy leaders complained about how crowded the rush hour trains were (an easy fix). Can we start ours now?

I have been checking this site out every so often. Having lived in Charlotte and now just over the state line in SC, I can say light rail is working well and hope they continue to design it well for future projects.

One mistake not to make, however, is to ignore roads, especially “get through” roads. Roads need to be easily navigated or else we end up with problems like Atlanta (where companies no longer want to build headqaurters) or Austin (which Dell left, citing traffic as its main concern).
