Confused, possibly even embarrassed
We didn't really want to post the above image, but now we're convinced that public humiliation is in order. What you see above left is none other than Seymour Green, the new mascot for The Metro (KCATA). The obvious homage is to the right.
We're quite confident that the image was selected with good and noble intentions, but we have to point out that this an offensive and unprofessional image to convey to riders and visitors. Is Seymour stoned or just exhausted? And what messages do the pigeon, twisted Metro sign, and broken pavement convey? Does anyone run this stuff by a focus group or someone at City Hall? Okay, so all of our pavement is actually broken, but when did touting deferred maintenance become part of a marketing plan?

He is the “Poochie” of government agency mascots.
This is the worst bit of dreck I have seen in awhile. I thought it was a parody of a Metro mascot (and a bad one at that) before I realized my mistake.
This can’t be real. That is awful.
He has been waiting for the bus for 2 hours, and is worn out.
This is the funniest thing I’ve read all week. What’s up with the crumbling sidewalk? Are those pigeon droppings by Seymour’s feet?
And why is the inconsiderate bastich taking up the entire bench like that?
kinda makes you wonder what they *didn’t* pick…
um, have you not driven BY a bus stop? It could be almost any stop east of Main!
I really thought this was a joke until I visited the KCATA site, priceless!
I have read a lot of things on this and I would love a show of hands on who actually takes the bus or just sits around and complains about everything. I’ve taken the bus for 15 years now and it is slowly getting better.
You people concerned about what goes on the bus and lack of reality about what a city really is just need to get a life.
Urban character is beautiful….if your worried about something different than yourself then move to Johnson County or dress up for a night at the Power and Light District.
do all you folks in kansas city have nothing better to do ,these frogs were created by a world famous artist who happens to live in kansas city ,comparing frogs to fat albert doesn’t even make sense i’ve never seen a african american portrayed as a frog anywhere maybe a french person would take offense but that is about it !!!! this is just like every midwest town lets worry about something that has no point or something that the middle class whites aren’t afraid to deal with ..,,if you really want to deal with a real problem why don’t you start leveling some crackhouses ….. or maybe i know you could start burning books …that worked real good in germany …you guys are really retarded ..oh wait that wasn’t PC either !!!!
nobody’s criticizing the artist. this flak is about the ata’s judgment in selecting an image that reflects poorly on itself and transit riders in general.
