Prime Buzz: Funkhouser supports council repeal

The Star's Prime Buzz reported today that Mayor Mark Funkhouser supports the council repeal of the voter-approved light rail plan. A council repeal would allow the city and KCATA to work unencumbered by the details of the plan, which specified the route, technology, and funding; it would also nullify the initiative petition that was approved for the February 2008 ballot. The next step would be to ensure the entire council agrees, since the mayor is just one of 13 votes. The council's Transportation and Infrastructure committee — which ultimately decides which options go before the full council — is expected to spend much of their Nov. 7 meeting on the light rail topic.

Whichever lawyer told them that City Council can repeal the voter-approved light rail plan needs to have his law license pulled. This has to go to a public vote again.
