The Urban Society Joins The Discussion

Dave Scott, president of the Urban Society, presented his opinion in yesterday's Kansas City Star of how to move forward with the approved ballot initiative approved by voters in November. Basically, Scott advocates scrapping the current plan and implementing a simplified initial spine from the Plaza to North Kansas City. Scott also makes an argument against focusing on bi-state or regional funding before moving forward (which is a complete contrast with the views espoused in the current mayoral race)… and if you believe the rhetoric being spewed by some Kansas legislators right now, that might not be such a bad idea.

Well, well. Isn’t it about time KC got it together and proffered up some better public transportation instead of the lame-o Metro that takes hours to get from say, South KC to downtown? I moved away ten years ago because I got tired of the fact that Union Station sat empty for years and years, the violence and crack heads, and the horrible traffic.
Now, finally the downtown is being sprung into overpriced lofts uberalles, and maybe you’ll have your lightrail built within the next ten years? Now, if you could just work on the gangs, crack heads, car jackings, rapes and murders, you might actually have something more to offer than just the Nelson, art studios, parks and fountains. I mean, even the Plaza is getting pretty lame because its ALL corporate america chains…all of the cool independent places are gone. So sad for a potentially cool city!!! Good luck!
